Breast Reconstruction

Breast reduction is an operation performed to treat women whose breasts are excessively large. Women with large breasts may have symptoms such as breast pain, back pain, neck pain, shoulder grooving from bra staps, and rashes under their breasts. The procedure involves removal of a portion of the breast tissue and skin. The type of incisions used include an incision around the areola and down the breast to the crease under the breast (“Lollipop” or “Vertical” pattern), and may require an additional incision in the crease under the breast (so-called “Anchor” or “Wise” pattern). The procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis. Drains are placed under the skin and are removed on the first postoperative day. The scars that are created vary among patients.
