A mastopexy is a procedure that is designed to raise the breast and firm the breast by removing excess skin and repositioning the tissues. The procedure may help patients whose breasts have become pendulous or have lost their shape, nipples that are pointing downward or that have dropped below the breast crease, and patients with stretched out skin or areolae. If there has been a significant loss of breast volume a breast augmentation may be added to the procedure to produce a fuller and more youthful breast. The incisions for the procedure are determined by the skin laxity and degree of sagging (ptosis) of the nipple-areola complex. This may be a peri-areolar incision for small degrees of sagging and may involve a lollipop or anchor-type incision.
